Discussions in school about why I in particular but why we as a team of teachers are very pleased with our mixed ability groupings in English got me thinking about the rationale behind why I wanted to continue with mixed ability groupings when I joined my current school. In my previous school I was very pro mixed ability groupings and I completed a lot of research into setting and I’ve used the ideas that I discovered in this research, the reading that I have completed and anecdotal evidence to try to summarise the rationale for continuing with mixed ability in all year groups from Year 7 to Year 11.
